Tokyo

by Space March

/

about

Space March has a long tradition of releasing geo-romantic songs, usually connecting a place with something personal and intimate. ‘Tokyo’ is the geo-romantic Space March song for 2019. Past geo-romantic songs include: ‘Canadian Girls’, ‘American Girl’, ‘Norway’, ‘Sweden’.

The building depicted in the cover is the convention centre – Tokyo Big Sight, opened in 1996. It features four inverted pyramids, possessing a sort of austere, neo-cyberpunk-retro-futurism, which is in stark contrast to the delicate, beauty of the music.

lyrics

Darling
We’ve travelled so far today
And you know that
We’re here to stay

For a week of so
We’ll be in Tokyo
In crowded trains
And electric rain
I’m not afraid of…

The neon lights
And the endless nights

I feel like
You know what I’m going to say
And the words keep
Falling away

We’re not alone
Here in Tokyo
In a human sea
Of make believe
I’m not afraid of…

The neon lights
And the endless nights

This is where we’ve been
And for all we’ve seen
The neon signs
And electric skies
I’m not afraid
Of a god who dies
Or a fish that flies
We’re changing lines
And we’re stealing time
We’re not afraid of…

The neon lights
And the endless nights
